#BucketList2013 #7. Volunteer.✔.

Time is precious. We get busy with school, work , spouses, kids, friends etc., that we barely have time for ourselves. My free time is limited but I always want to try and make time for others. Today was magical. A day filled with love, encouragement, inspiration and empowerment for middle school aged girls. I spoke to them about what it was like when I was their age and let them know this awkard time was all just a moment in their lives. The day was filled with dancing, journaling, talking nutrition, bullying and more. Everyone was told to pick a word and write it on their arm as a reminder. A word that describes you or something you want more of in your life or maybe you want to be more like. My word ( not pictured above) is ENCOURAGE. I am grateful for the most encouraging family and friends growing up and to this day. I also feel like encouraging others is one of my best qualities. I am encouraging you all to take at least one day and volunteer. From picking up trash on the beach to dog kennels to visiting seniors at a home. Someone somewhere out there needs you. 7 down….

#BucketList2013 #6 Buy a new camera/photography something. ✔.

Initially, I thought I wanted to take a photography class more than I wanted a camera but last year around October I found this camera I just couldn’t stop thinking about. A friend of mine had it and I have to say I was jealous of every.single.picture.she.took. So, after after about 6 months of dreaming…I FINALLY DID IT. This picture above is the very first picture I took with it. I’m in love. Look for more pictures as I continue to figure out how to work it. 6 down ….lots to go;) It’s already April…gotta keep movin’ on my bucket list!!!!

#BucketList2013 #5 Write hand written letters to friends and send them snail mail style. ✔. This was a fun one. I started with about 6 friends. The first letter I wrote just felt weird. It just felt like I didn’t know what to write. With social media, we all seem to know about each others lives every minute of everyday that it seemed hard to come up with things. After the second letter, I seemed to get a bit of a flow. It felt like when you used to write notes in High School. My hand started to hurt cause these days, I’m used to typing not writing. ;) Anyway, I plan to do this way more often. It’s the way we used to communicate and it really just made me happy to mail them off knowing my pals had no idea they were coming. So fun!!!!

#Bucketlist2013 #4 Don’t complain for 72 Hours. ✔. Now I don’t consider myself a big complainer but I knew that if I had vowed to not do it, I’d probably have a million complaints. BUT I DID IT!!! I wrote some of things down that I would have voiced if I could have and Let me say ,THEY WERE RIDICULOUS!!! Like….” Not enough foam in my latte” or ” the line at the airport” Oh wait ….THERE ARE ALWAYS LINES AT THE AIRPORT KAMILAH!!! On the other hand , I wanted to say things that weren’t complaints a lot, things that were just facts like “I’m hungry” or “I’m tired”. Those to me are just statements about how I felt in the moment…HOWEVER they always seem to come off complain-y or whiny depending on your tone so I refrained. I also found myself simply taking the time to think before I speak as to make sure nothing negative would come out of my mouth. My rule was, if I said anything negative, I’d follow it up with a solution. So….I did that.

In short, I did it and it was hard. I loved challenging myself and in short I may have bettered myself a little. I reccomend everyone try it, even for 24 hours. The truth is my life is really, really great. I’m healthy, I’m happy, I’m working so I really should have very little to complain about;)

On to the next one!!!

#Bucketlist2013 #3 Try Escargot ( aka Snails).✔. This video speaks for itself. I did it…..I don’t ever need to do it again but I might try it with butter and garlic next time;)

#KamilahMarshall365

In December of 2011, I had heard of a project someone did called the 365 challenge. They had taken one photo everyday for 365 days to document the year. I was newly into photography and all the fancy apps that I had challenged myself to do the same for 2012. I said I would post them everyday to Instagram and even got a few friends on board with the idea.

I am proud to say that I have one more picture left to take. December 31st 2012. I completed the challenge. Along with my gals Eden Espinosa and Carla Duren. It has been so great for so many reasons. My two most favorite reasons are;

1. It’s almost like a picture diary of my life. I can look at almost every picture and remember the day like it was yesterday. Trips I took, nieces I met, shows I did or the day my dog ate my yoga mat.

And 2. I started something….AND I FINISHED IT. It’s seems small but think about how often we pick up a project, starting guitar or a language, knitting a scarf or even exercising. Most the time we just stop and say “oh well” but I finished and it makes me proud of that accomplishment.

As some of you may know( cause I talk about it a lot) I’m getting ready for my next challenge that I made up called #bucketlist2013 , where I write a list of 50 or so things I’ve always wanted to see, do, learn, eat or meet and try to accomplish at least 25 or more of them. I am excited for the challenge. A challenge to myself to say if you put your mind to it…you can achieve anything. Instead of saying “I’ve always wanted to…” Changing it to “I’m going to…” And just figuring out how to make it a reality. I have a ton of friends on board for this one and I’m hoping some of these things we will be able to do together. You’d be surprised when you share…how many things we have in common.

I’m encouraging all of you to find your own project big or small or join in on one of mine. It makes your days better. Brighter. Doing these things with friends helps you know one another a little more. An awesome way to connect. Know it’s not always easy but the determination to figure it out will be worth it by years end.

Happy New Year Everyone!!! God Bless US All!!!

(If you’d like to do #bucketlist2013 I can share how I’m going about it and you can join message me on fb,twitter or here)
