Kamilah Marshall was born and raised a California girl. She's a beach girl, a city girl, a wife, a daughter and a singer who's spirit is reminiscent of Roberta Flack but a sound thats all her own. It's the deep down FUNKABILLY!

#BucketList2013. #18,19,20,21&22(ish).✔️.

Ok, so…..December was a busy month like it always is, and I couldn’t update like I wanted to. So here it all is in one blog.

#18 Pick up the guitar again. ✔️. I wish I had more time to devote to it because after a few weeks it was like riding a bike. I had really missed it. I don’t have mine with me but I should have made a video of me playing the 3 songs I played over and over which were RED ( which I never got good at ha), Fast Car and You Belong With Me. I did Ok.

#19 Relearn French.✔️. I got pretty good at this one. I took French in HS and decided to pick it up again the first time I went to Paris in hopes of being able to speak it whenever I went back. We had the chance this year to go to Cannes and back to Paris and I made myself speak French at every turn. I fell into English when I just couldn’t think of the words but I believe the French appreciated that I tried. I plan to stick with this one and learn a little more.

#20 Read The Bible ….THE WHOLE THING!!! I mean, it’s a really big book. Really big, but I did it. At the top of the year I had made a daily program that would have me done in 6 months…well, I just finished 2 weeks ago…sooooo…..hahaa. I finished and I’m glad I read it.

#21 Redecorate the home.✔️. I only knew that I wanted a change in the house. A different energy and vibe. So grateful to my friend Jason who made us feel like we had an HGTV makeover. We got new paint, moulding in the bedroom, furniture and curtain changes, glossy/flat stripes on the walls and ceilings and ceiling fans. It looks amazing!!! Glad we did It.

#22 8 hours of sleep everyday for a week. ✔️ish. You’d think this would be easy except I learned you can’t just tell your body sleep for 8 hours this week. I went one week where I got close to 7 hours everyday. Another week where I got 4 days @7hrs and 3 days @8. I kept trying week after week. It was just tough so I gave up and realized it’s about quality not quantity!!!!

There it is folks!!! There it is.

#BucketList2013 . #17. Make my wedding album. ✔️.

Well it’s true…..I’ve been married for a while now and I’ve yet to make an album. It took me a couple years to even blow up photos and put them in our home. I’m not sure why. I think I was just so happy to be married and not have to worry about anymore wedding stuff that I just never got to it. I’m sure I’ll be real happy when I get it back and have it on my hands. For now, I’ll continue to carry at least 100 or so wedding photos on my phone and look at them all the time. It took forever to make this album but at least it’s being done.

#Bucketlist2013. #16. Take a cooking class. ✔️sort of.

My mother is an amazing cook. I did not pick up that gene. Ha!! I know the basics a steak, a chicken, the easy stuff but nothing fancy. Since I’ve been married ,I’ve always wanted to take a proper cooking class. I thought it might….teach me everything I need to know about cooking. I’ve taken one by a chef and we made asparagus soup. I hate asparagus. I just wanted a class that would teach me recipes like chicken with a kick, or how to make a proper steak. So I put “take a cooking class” on the list. I even paid for one off groupon. I was ready to go. The problem with these classes is they only make one thing and it’s usually real fancy and nothing I’d ever make. SO, while deciding what class I wanted to do…I started looking up recipes online. I then, started making a recipe a day. AND IT WAS FLIPPING GREAT! I did it 5 days in a row. I made everything from a pot roast ( you know with the carrots and celery and potatoes all around it to a whole chicken with roasted broccoli a spring herb rice. I actually really enjoyed cooking everyday. I think I’m realizing is it can be time consuming and i just never really had the patience to get all goods and do the step by step. I kind of feel that since doing that, I don’t need the cooking class anymore….I mean, I’ll probably still take it but I’m more excited about looking up tons of recipes and making anything and everything I can!!!! 16 down. 9 to go……

#BucketList2013. #15. Romantic Getaway.✔️.

This year has been a busy year so this may sound easy but not with our schedule!!! Taking 3 days to go anywhere and do nothing…not easy. You have to make the time, have the cash etc, etc, I wouldn’t say we’re work-a-holics but sometimes I find Husby and I find it hard to relax and do nothing for days at a time. We’re also not a super mushy couple so, I was finding the idea a bit hard and felt pressure to top the normal happenings that we usually do. We live a block away from the beach…pretty romantic scenery. We sip wine and listen to records while eating dinner , also pretty romantic.
So…we found the time and the area, booked a hotel and off we went. Truth is we had a flippin’ great time. We even kissed in the rain( see previous post ✔️). Pretty romantic. I won’t bore you with the details but I think I after it was over I realized we have romance in “our way”. Some people like flowers and chocolate, others like long walks on the beach. I’m not knocking couples who enjoy the frilly stuff….we’ve done a little of that and it can be really nice too but at the end of the day just he and I away from the world is romantic and just what we needed.

I numbered wrong on the last one so now it’s #15 down. 10 to go and 2 months and 1 week to do it. I BETTER HUSTLE!!!

#BucketList2013. #14. Make out with my husband in the rain.✔️.

Sounds mushy? Indeed. Surprisingly I have never kissed in the rain. You see it all the time in the movies and it looks really romantic. My take has always been why would you want to stop in the middle of a down pour to make out when you could simply run for shelter and be inside, DRY and kiss all night long. Well I put it on my bucket list and simply had to wait for it to rain AND be with my husband all at the same time. I was dying to know what all the fuss was about. It really was a challenge, I was either not with Husby and it was pouring or I was with Husby and it was clear as day….so we were on our little romantic getaway (bucket list #16, Woop) and we were walking, holding hands and enjoying the city. All of sudden it starts to rain and I have to say my mind is not on the kissing, however there was something about how content we were in that moment that made us not hurry or try to run for cover. It then hits me, BUCKET LIST!!! I remind Husby about the kiss and he says “can’t rain any harder than this, let’s go” and he kissed me. There it was. We stood getting drenched and making out. People were scattering around us… And I finally got it. Time stood still in that moment. Yes we were getting drenched by the downpour but I see now how it IS romantic to just stop and be and kiss and love in a moment when the instinct is to hurry and run and duck for cover. After the kiss we just looked at each other and laughed and continued to saunter to the car. It was pretty magical. I can’t say it’s my first choice to make out in the rain but …..now, I really get it. 15 down. 10 to go!!!!

#BucketList2013. #13. Climb a Rock Wall to the top withOUT crying. ✔.

The story goes like this…I am afrai of heights. I think less afraid I heights and more afraid if I’m up high ill fall. Heights really, really scare me. A few years ago, some friends and I went to a rock climbing gym and I got harnessed up and got part way up. I cried from fear. It was just scary and the thought of getting to the top was, well….not an option. I put it on my bucket list this year to conquer that. The goal was to climb to the top WITHOUT tears. I initially thought this would be fun with a group of pals but the day came and I just thought one friend would be enough. I felt like I’d get distracted with everyone yelling their support and saying what my next step should be. So, Melanie it was. We got there and I saw the top….looked impossible. I chose to go first. I went up and I got halfway, I yelled to come down because I was shaking and felt like I was going to cry. I thought it better to come down and cry than cry on the wall. Mel took a turn and got to the top cause she’s rad!!! Then it was my turn to go. So I took a moment and started to climb. I got to the exact same spot I was the first time and asked to come down. This time I heard Mel say “keep going”. So I took a few more steps. Brian our teacher kept saying ” trust it, trust it”. At that moment I went into a zone. I kept going and I got so close to the top but not the top. I felt tears coming and I cleared my throat. I again yelled to Mel “I can’t, I gotta come down”. She said “the bells RIGHT THERE, you have to ring the bell”. I took a few more steps and I RANG THAT BELL!!!! I did it. Mel and Brian were cheering and I yelled “BRING ME DOWN”!!! I got two feet flat in the ground and…..I cried! Happy tears of course…but I didn’t cry on that wall and I FLIPPING DID IT. I love to challenge myself…but I really love conquering the challenge. 13 down, 12 to go!!!!

#BucketList2013. #12. Stand in a field of Sunflowers. ✔.

Ok, this was a random one but I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like. Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I knew it would be tough because I’ve actually never seen a sunflower field before and didn’t know where they were. SO, were driving down I-90 on our way to Fargo from the rush of seeing Mt. Rushmore and low and behold….A SUNFLOWER FIELD that went for MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLEEEESSS!!!! I’m screaming “OH MY GOD”, Clare is screaming “pull over, pull over” and Melanie feverishly pulls over to the side of the road!!!! Clare hops out in flip flops headed down the hill of tall grass and Lord knows what was livin’ in there. Mel is in a dress and is halfway allergic to mosquito bites but she’s down to get in there for Me ,And I quickly throw pants on and head down when we notice a barbed wire fence….now what? Clare doesn’t miss a beat and says “we’ve come this far”. Well….we got over it and we were in….the hard part was you couldn’t really get IN the field because the sunflowers were grown so close together but I stepped in and got a picture. I was never so happy. Coming out of that field , we all got ate up but every bug and mosquito possible, scratched by the barbed wire and had some near misses by something that was moving in the tall grass that we are simply calling ’ a leprechaun’. All in all, totally worth it!!!

#BucketList2013. #11. Visit Mount Rushmore. ✔.

I can’t believe I’ve traveled this country like a million times and I’ve never seen this amazing National Memorial. We were headed to Fargo to do a show so a couple of friends and I decided to head a day early to South Dakota, see the memorial and then take the 8 hour drive to Fargo. We rented a log cabin in the Black Hills Forest, which was amazing. The next morning we got ready to go see the Presidents. I really thought we’d see it take a couple pics and then leave but I have to say, it was pretty breathtaking and we spent a while there. The fact that people chiseled the stone and made them look exactly like the Presidents is NUTS to me. So glad I went, so glad I went with Mel and Clare. The rest of the road trip was UNFORGETTABLE!!! I tell ya, if you have a chance to get to Mt. Rushmore…..GO!!!!!! 11 down, 14 more to go!!!!

#BucketList2013 #10. Facing a Fear. ✔.
This is one I’m going to have to be a little more general with. Keeping it private….BUT , I still wanted to share it with you and let you know that I crossed it off.
I have had a fear/uncomfortableness for a long time. Truth is I have no earthly idea where it came from. It’s just always been there since I can remember. Well I decided to do something about it. A way that I could face it and see that maybe it was all in my head. That’s the thing about fear it really is all in our head. It’s only as big as WE make it. I can’t say I automatically will never feel uncomfortable ever again but this first step was good and I’m glad I made myself do it. I’m encouraging you all to take a small step in the direction of facing a fear. Most of the time you are bigger than it is 😜.
#10 down….at least 10 or 11 more to go and I only have 4 1/2 months left!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHH!
